Community Involvement At American Community, we’re proud of our community involvement. We strive to create a positive impact by investing and volunteering in the communities we serve. We place an emphasis on supporting organizations that help people with special needs, build community spirit and improve the quality of life. Our support extends to organizations promoting awareness of, sensitivity to, and cooperation with cultural difference.
American Community Employees Donate Easter Baskets To In-Need Children
Easter morning was made a little brighter for 31 underprivileged children and their siblings from three schools in the Livonia Public School District. In its eleventh consecutive year, American Community Mutual Insurance Company employees played Peter Cottontail by donating Easter baskets filled with candy, games, toys, and other fun items.
The children who received the Easter baskets range from 10 months to 14 years of age, and are from Roosevelt and Cooper Elementary schools, both in Livonia; and Hayes Elementary, located in Westland.
American Community Partners with Toys for Tots
American Community has joined forces this holiday season with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program to be a designated drop-off location to collect new toys for metro Detroit children in need.
For each unwrapped toy dropped off, donors will receive one free movie pass to view one of the following G-rated movies of the season, including:
Mr. Magorium’s Magic Emporium, The Golden Compass, or
Alvin and the Chipmunks. The movie screenings will take place on Saturday, December 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Emagine Theater in Canton, Michigan.
Toys will be accepted between Monday, December 3 and Friday, December 14, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. American Community is located on the southeast corner of Seven Mile and Haggerty roads at 39201 Seven Mile Rd., Livonia. For more information, call (734) 591-9000.
American Community Employees Donate Clothing for Local Children
American Community teamed up with Adopt-a-Child-Size and Support Services, Inc. again this year to donate new complete winter outfits for local children in Out-Wayne and Eastern Washtenaw Counties to help ensure that each child stays warm throughout the winter months.
This year, American Community employees increased the number of children they 'adopted' this year to 30. Each child will receive winter clothing, educational games and books.
To qualify, local families are referred to Adopt-a-Child-Size and Support Services, Inc. through a network of local health, human service, educational and religious agencies. Families are eligible to receive assistance on a one-time only basis and financial need is established by the referring agency based upon government poverty guidelines.
This initiative was coordinated by the American Community Employee Committee that spearheads all fundraising, charitable contributions and employee events throughout the year.
American Community Employees Participate in the Lighthouse of Oakland County, Inc. Career Dress Program
American Community employees demonstrated their generosity by donating over 500 articles of professional career clothing to the Lighthouse of Oakland County, Inc. Career Dress Program, which is designed to help low-income women in Oakland County enter or re-enter the workforce by providing them with gently used professional career clothing.
The organization provides services that are designed to bring independence and self-sufficiency to low-income families and individuals. From emergency and supplemental food to permanent housing, counseling, education and more, Lighthouse helps people break the cycle of poverty.
With high unemployment rates and a dampened economy, Lighthouse depends on the generosity of volunteers and supporters. For information on how you can help move people toward personal independence,

American Community Sponsors Employees in the 16th Annual Komen Detroit Race for the Cure® On Saturday, June 16, 2007, American Community sponsored a sixteen-member team in the 16th Annual Komen Detroit Race for the Cure® held at Comerica Park. | While significant strides have been made in the fight against breast cancer, there are still far too many families suffering from the disease. To learn more about what you can do to make a difference, visit www.komen.org.
